Positive thinking bla bla bla
Check out Barbara Ehrenreich discussing her new book, Bright Sided: How The Relentless Promotion of Positive Thinking Has Undermined America, in the lecture [click here].
I'm not really convinced by her argument that positive thinking has become a massive thing because of neo-liberal downsizing - the cult of positive thinking has been big in the US since the start of the 20th century, with movements like the mental hygiene scene, and books like As A Man Thinketh, promoting it. She's a bit too economically determinist. But I like her, and enjoyed her last book, Dancing In The Streets.
